There are five essay questions. In total, you must answer FOUR Questions.
You must complete three of the first four. All of these relate to Hinton’s book, The Sun Does Shine.
The last question is required and it does notconnect to The Sun Does Shine.
Choose three of the first four, A through D. Question E is required.
A. Explain how Ray Hinton’s story connects in one way to one or two of the cases we have studied this semester. The “connection” should indicate relevant similarities and how these similarities illuminate and enhance your understanding of these important aspects of legal cases.
Choose only one of these:
-A connection between the philosophical or ideological attributes of Hinton and similar traits of a main litigant in a textbook case or any other case we have or will study this semester.
-A similarity between the procedural problems of Hinton’s case and the procedural problems of one of our cases.[1]
-Similar issues of systemic racism as seen in Hinton’s case and one of our cases.
-The common component of a contrast between law and justice seen in Hinton’s case and one of our cases.
-A connection between the power imbalance in Hinton’s case and the power imbalance in one of our cases.

Your paper should be — without redundancies — should have between 2800 – 3200 words.
Recommended line spacing: 1.5
Margins: no more than 1 inch; Font: TNR 12 or its equivalent – or smaller
Do not provide an Introduction and/or a Conclusion to any of your answers.
The word count should approximate the following: 650 to 800 words per question.
All sources must be cited with footnote formattingand specific page numbers for each. [2]
Both verbatim quotes (use quotation marks) and paraphrasing must be given specific citations.

Grading
Each Question is worth 25 points.
The grading will be based on writing ability, focus and responsiveness to the prompt, proper use of sources, proper citations, and thorough and substantive responses.
