Children in the Industrial Revolution – Assignment

Assignment:

Take the role of a child during the Industrial Revolution and write a letter to your employer connecting the ideals of Classical Liberalism to the actuality of the Industrial Revolution. What recommendations would you make to improve the area you work in (textile, coal mines, agriculture, navy, chimney sweep, etc.)?

Be creative! Your written response should be formatted as a letter, typed, 12 pt font.

Formatting:

Paragraph One: Introduce yourself and where you are employed. Why are you writing to your employer today?

Paragraph Two: What is your life like in your field of work? What is your home life like? What challenges do you face? This will be your examination of the challenges of unregulated capitalism and classical liberalism.

Paragraph Three: Recommend some improvements to your employer. What could your employer do to make your life (and that of your colleagues) better in the workplace and in society in general? Try to keep your recommendations realistic. This will be your examination of the rise of labour rights and the shift towards modern liberalism in society.

Ensure you use specific evidence from the documentary. If you use additional research, ensure you have cited any sources at the end of your assignment. You should be writing from the perspective of a child in one certain industry, not several. For this task, suspend your disbelief over literacy and have your letter in proper English 🙂
