For the rest of the semester, you will be participating in some back-and-forth online debates.
This week you will be posting a video of you speaking an affirmative case on a topic given below. Next week, you’ll be posting a video of you speaking a negative case against one of the affirmative videos someone posted this week. Get it? 🙂 Let’s just just worry about this week for now:
1.) You got some good practice watching a couple debates over the past few weeks. Now it’s your turn. You will be recording yourself giving an affirmative debate speech. Using the IPDA Aff Debate Case Actions as your template, record an affirmative speech that is at least 4 minutes but not to exceed 5 minutes in length on the debate topic at the end of this sentence and embed the YouTube video or copy/paste the YouTube link to this discussion post: “Free college tuition is the right choice for America.” You are not required to use YouTube but you must post a video that would be accessible to any student taking this course through Canvas. Remember, as the affirmative debater, you agree with the topic statement above on supporting free college tuition in America.
2.) Please state your name somewhere at the beginning of your video so other students will know who is speaking. I highly recommend your speech be closer to 5 minutes as this will make it tougher for your classmates to refute you next week. Make sure we can clearly hear/see you in the video and there is no distracting sound/images while the video is playing. Again, make sure your video is accessible to everyone. Remember, everyone is AFFIRMATIVE on this week’s topic on the free college tuition topic and to post their video to this discussion thread. Your video is due this Sunday July 12th by midnight.
3.) **Extra Help**: If you want a visual reminder of how your speech should be structured for this week’s video-speech submission in addition to the affirmative template provided above (and in our Canvas Files), pay attention to what the first speaker does in these two different debates below (again, only watch the first speaker as an example!). These two debates are same ones as I have posted in the previous discussions, but I’ll link them here to make it easier for you:
