Objectives
The goal of this assignment is to assess how well students understand criminal procedure concepts.
Paper Requirements
A. (75% of paper) Focus on a specific topic/issue related to criminal procedure in the United States.
B. (25% of paper) Develop a detailed plan for addressing the topic/issue, including (but not limited to) how the topic/issue will be addressed, who will be involved, what resources would be needed, and what is the expected impact of the plan.
Prospectus
Provide a 1 paragraph description of the paper topic.[1] Feedback will be provided.[2] If a prospectus is not submitted by the due date/time (see syllabus), then 5% will be deducted from the final paper grade.
Paper Requirements
· 6-7 full double-spaced pages of text (not including title and reference pages)
· 12 point Times New Roman font and 1 inch margins
o The text must start at the top of each page
o Do not include additional blank lines at the beginning or within the paper
· A minimum of 6 peer-reviewed journal articles
o Government reports may replace 2 of the articles (prior approval required)
o There is not a maximum number of sources (e.g., journal articles, newspaper articles)
· APA formatting
o In-text citation and references, including lecture notes
o Header and page number at top of page
o Use headings to differentiate ‘Part A – Topic Discussion’ & ‘Part B – Practical Application’
o No abstract is required (an abstract does not count towards minimum page count)
· Papers are expected to be proofread and well written
o Keep in mind that this is an academic paper and not an opinion essay
· Papers will be scanned for plagiarism/originality on D2L Turnitin
