Critical Response #2 AND Thesis & Outline of Essay

Critical Response #2

Now that you have read the Guidelines for Essay #1, please choose which two articles you will write about. Also, be sure you have reviewed the “Ten Common Fallacies” and “Rhetorical Analysis Packet” handouts before completing this worksheet. You can download this chart and save it to your home computer, your Google Drive, or a flash drive. Just be sure that you are not submitting a blank chart and that you save your work. Because some graphics and charts do not display on Canvas correctly using Word, you must submit this assignment as a PDF. If you are using Word, simply re-save the document as a PDF before uploading. If using Google Drive, export the document as a PDF before uploading. Your score for this assignment will be credit/no-credit based on percentage of completion. For each blank in the chart, try to include examples with page numbers from the articles. This exercise will directly prepare you to write Essay #1, so the more effort you put into it, the easier that writing process will be.

Thesis & Outline of Essay #1

Use the worksheets you completed for CR #1 and CR #2 in order to craft an outline of your paper. Also, be sure you have read the Guidelines for Essay #1 very carefully before drafting. You should also review the MLA Formatting Basics, and ensure your paper is properly formatted before submitting. In order to receive 5 points, your outline must adhere to the following criteria:

  1. Your document must be properly MLA formatted and should include a word count as the 5th line in the heading. (Only include the main text of your paper in this word count (do not include the heading or title in this number.).
  2. Your document must include a working title. Make sure this title is descriptive and original.
  3. Your document must include an introduction paragraph which begins with a general hook, introduces the two authors and articles you will discuss, provides an overview of the main claims of each article, and then ends with a thesis.
  4. Your document must include a thesis statement that answers the key question of Guidelines for Essay #1 clearly and specifically. This thesis should be last sentence of your introduction, and it should be highlighted yellow.
  5. Your document must include 4-6 bullet points which indicate which rhetorical strategy, device, or element of author’s argument you will compare for that paragraph. Ideally, you can craft a topic sentence for each of these bullet points. Remember that you should be comparing both articles in every single body paragraph.

Note: I want each document to be separate. Critical Response #2 in one document and Thesis & Outline of Essay #1 in one document.
