DISCUSSION POST 10: DRIVING BEHAVIOUR

GOAL:  You will compare the use of technology while driving to drunk driving.  You will describe the risks of multitasking while driving.  The ability to do so will be measured by the completion of this discussion.

TASKS:

1. Please be sure to completed the Consciousness, Cognition, and Driving Homework page and to have reviewed the PowerPoints, both of which are in Module 14.
2. Please refer back to the information from Discussion Post 6, “The Lure of Data” as this content is also applicable to this module.

1. Use information from the source material to craft a response to the following discussion prompts:

1. In what way is multi-tasking while driving like drunken driving?  In other words, how does multi-tasking while driving impact consciousness?

Discussion Post 12:ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY

GOAL:  You will describe the fundamental characteristics of a chosen psychological disorder and its relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.  You will describe the manner by which religion, race, class, gender, and ethnicity impact the stigmatization and treatment of that psychological disorder.  The ability to do will be measured in the completion of this discussion.

TASKS:

1. Please be sure to review the abnormal psychology and social psychology chapters in the textbook.  Please also review the PowerPoint information and be sure to complete the homework page for this chapter.
2. Please be sure to have an understanding of the description of psychological disorders as per the textbook and the DSM 5 information from the PowerPoints.
3. Please also be sure to have researched the term “stigma”.  If you have had SOCL 101, you would have covered this in that class.
4. Please read the research report “Psychosocial impact of COVID-19”.
5. Having completed the above, please include the following in your discussion:

Pick ONE of the diagnoses mentioned in the linked research report.  Using the information from the text, briefly explain the characteristics of that disorder and how they relate to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In what ways does COVID-19 induce social stigma?  How does this exacerbate (make worse) the chosen disorder?

What social interventions would you recommend to address these issues?
