You will conduct a face to face ethnographic interview with an individual who is distinctive from your cultural background in at least three major ways. Ideally, you’ll find someone of a different spiritual background from you, which might even make you feel at least somewhat uncomfortable.  For example, if you are a Latina Catholic married female without kids, you might choose a Black or Asian single, Buddhist or Muslim male who is a father. You would discuss how your race and ethnicity, spirituality, marital status, gender, and/or your parental status could impact your working relationship with this individual as a client.

Using ethnographic interviewing, you will conduct an interview of this individual (no close friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, or family). The focus of the interview will be on the interviewee’s culture, values, background, etc. It would be helpful in writing your paper if you seek permission to record the conversation so you can refer back to it for clarification. Please keep in mind, this assignment will focus on how the distinctiveness may impact your professional relationship with this person if they were a client.
