The first article examines ways health psychologists have intervened in substance use and other high-risk behaviors that are detrimental to health. This information provides a good overview of practical application of health psychology to substance use disorders. The second article shows how treatment models are evaluated for effectiveness in reducing various behaviors that pose a health risk including substance use.
