After reading the article and watching the video posted here, please respond to the following:

How do you think the discovery of gold at Sutter’s mill in 1848 altered the future of the United States? (Your post should be make it clear you read the article and watched the video). Or put another way, what would have been different if gold had not been discovered? (the short Gold Rush section in chapter 12 may help as well)

And just for fun, do you think you would have made the trip to California to mine for gold? Why or why not?
