Mid-Term paper

You have 72 hours to submit your essays on canvas beginning at 11:59pm on Wednesday (21 October) until 11:59pm on Saturday (24 October). Any late submission will be graded on 80% of the allocated grade for the mid-term.
Each essay will be graded on 30, totaling 60 for the entire mid-term.
Each essay should approximately about 4 to 6 pages (times new roman, 12 font size, double spaced).
Use concepts, theories, and examples from class materials (both print and digital) as much as you can to support your analysis and arguments.
Any citation style will do, but be consistent in following one.
You may use texts, ideas and explanations from your OWN online discussion posts. However, do not copy from others’ posts as that will be treated as plagiarism.

Grading will be done on the level of accurate conceptual understanding, quality of analysis, and logical foundation of your argument.

Prompt 1

What is the ‘Development Project’ in McMichael’s terms? Briefly discuss how colonialism continues through development ideas and practices by looking at the role of IMF and World Bank in market administration and poverty management. Make an argument about the consequences of development in terms of poverty reduction with particular reference to a developing country.

Prompt 2

How did the World Bank and IMF facilitate the neoliberal (free-market) globalization in the wake of Third World debt-crisis? Briefly describe the transformations in the division of labor under globalization as shaped by new ideas and practices of development. Looking at either Outsourcing or Global Land-grab, recognize the results of globalization for the Third Wold populations and compare those with the promises of globalization to offer an argument of your own.
