Being a women is not easy to work for developmentand I have faced many risks and challenges in my life. Still thousands of people and communites are awaiting to get justice, equality in the society, and peaceful environments in their homes and communities. Myanmar is one of the least developed countries in the world and has been suffering from internal conflicts between the groups and with the government. Meanwhile many innocent people have been compelled to leave their property and reject their indentities, and many have died. Thus, seeing myself as a social worker, I feel it is my duty and resposibility to help people as much as I can.

I have been working for over seven years in the development sector. During this experience, I have seen so many difficulties in community development. Myanmar is rich in natural resources but the humanitarian situation in Myanmar is characterized by a complex combination of challenges around displacement, migration, vulnerability to natural disasters, protection and human rights, food insecurity, and chronic poverty. Years of conflict and unresolved ethnic differences have contributed to the internal displacement of an estimated 866,718 people as well as an exodus into neighboring countries. (UNHCR, June 2019). These factors contribute to Myanmar ranking as the most at-risk for poverty in Asia-Pacific.

At the heart of the conflict, which has involved non-state armed groups and the Myanmar military, have been problems with governance, natural resources development, and recognition of the unique characteristics and rights of the country’s ethnic minorities. The social-economic status of citizens living in the conflict-affected area were badly affected in many ways. Over the years, the costs of conflict have been considerable and conflict has, directly and indirectly, impacted the lives and the livelihoods of most people in Myanmar.Being a least developed country, the COVID 19 pandemic will remarkable strike the Myanmar economic status and after the November, 2020 election, the winning party will have to face a lot of challenges about the pace of development, economic, ethnic conflicts and the politics. Due to the situation, skillful leaders play a very important role in Myanmar and our humanitarian workers’ role is essential to building a developed country.

I want to build the capacity of the civil society leaders who can advocate for citizens’ rights, leading to development, promoting social equity, and able to create a conducive atmosphere to achieve lasting peace and prosperity in a global village. From the this Fellowship, I could be defined to help realize justice and alleviate human suffering like poverty, hunger, and other detriments to health and environment.

My commitment towards the society and for the peace and development has been strong  since my college life and I would like to get more engaged in these sectors for my long term career. Therefore, this Master Degree in …… will be strengthening my knowledge and skill which I can use directly after I return back from the program.
