Policies/laws in the us

I was going to write about policies in the us or laws through out American history that pretty much have contradicted themselves for example laws that pertained to native Americans and the land they were driven to were taken back because there was gold found on the land. another example is how they freed slaves and then pretty much took it back with certain laws making freed slaves slaves again. I was planning on using how to hide an empire by Daniel immerwahr and war and empire by Paul Atwood as my two main resources since we read them in class.
