Significant Person

Just as events have shaped who we have become, so do other people. The impact that others have made on us, and shaped us in positive ways, is a valuable way to learn more about ourselves and what is important to us. It also helps us to more fully tell our story.

Write an essay about a person who has been important in your life.

• Strive to present a vivid portrait, one that will let your readers see the person’s character and the significance of the relationship to you.
  • Make sure to explain WHY this person has been important to your life.
• The anecdotes are the examples you select and which will show how the person made an impact on you.
• You will need to include at least two anecdotes in each body paragraph.
• Make sure you select a person with whom you have had direct interaction. The anecdotes need to be of moments the two of you experienced together.
• The essay should be at least 4 pages long in MLA format

Essay 2 Features

1. Main idea: A clear indication of why this person is significant to who you are. (This is also known as your thesis statement)

2. People and Places are vividly described.

• Use descriptive details:
  • • include physical descriptions of the person that help convey something about him/her
    • include a description of the person’s mannerisms that help convey something about him/her
    • Optional Dialogue: Direct quotes, paraphrases, summary of words spoken by the individuals in the story.

3. Supporting Examples:

• Include at least 2 anecdotes (brief stories of one-time events) in each body paragraph

4. Conclusion:

The conclusion should sum up the reasons why this person is important your life.
