Directions: This assessment requires you to show what you have learned about the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. There are three parts to this marking period assessment: (1) Content vocabulary and concept quiz-30pts (2) Create a slideshow-40pts (3) Compare and contrast two works of art-30pts. These are all of the aspects of Visual Art that we have been focusing on throughout the past couple of months.

Part 3: Compare and Contrast 2 Artworks
Directions: Look at the 2 artworks below and write a 3 paragraph response below in which you (1) Describe The Mona Lisa (2) Describe Self-portrait with Monkey (3) Compare and contrast the two using the “art vocabulary” we have learned while looking for the presence of the Elements and Principles of Art and Design within an artwork.

Paragraph 1: Description of The Mona Lisa
- Describe the work without using value words such as “beautiful” or “ugly”.
- What is the title and who is the artist?
- Describe the elements of the work (i.e., line, shape, space, color, and texture).
- Describe the technical qualities of the work (i.e., tools, materials, instruments).
- Describe the subject matter. What is it all about? Are there recognizable images?
Paragraph 2: Description of Self-portrait with a Monkey
- Describe the work without using value words such as “beautiful” or “ugly”
- What is the title and who is the artist?
- Describe the elements of the work (i.e., line, shape, space, color, and texture).

Paragraph 3: Compare and contrast
- Analyze both “settings” for connections or differences.
- Analyze how each subject is presented by each artist.
- Where do you see similarities/differences in how the elements and principles are presented by each artist?
- What are the points of emphasis for each artist? Are they similar or different?
- Where can you find a juxtaposition/contrast between the two works of art?
