Now it’s time to do a strategic analysis on your own project.

· Identify key areas of system administration that could be automated in some way to save you some effort and headaches in the following areas:

o Analyze the current state of your SOHO network and the way users interact with it.

o Define what problems could be encountered by the systems, users, or other issues that could be proactively taken care of.

o Describe how you would take care of this problem or task using an automated script that could be set to occur as a timed event, or triggered during some operation of the computer.

· Prepare a list of commands that could be entered into the command-line interface in order to achieve this goal.

Learn to script

· Learn the difference between programming languages and scripting languages, and be able to identify and define a batch file,

· Watch theLinkedIn Learning video Up and Running with Bash Scripting with Scott Simpson

· Learn about Powershell by watching the LinkedIn Learning video: Up and Running with the PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment with Mike Pfeiffer from the course Learning PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment

For your task, submit a script that accomplishes five tasks of your choice. Extra points for cohesiveness (i.e, the five tasks all work together to accomplish something like troubleshooting connectivity, not just printing “Hello Bob” on the screen and then proceeding to format the hard disk)

· Choose one of the areas below to focus on creating a script

o Making a new user happy with a custom greeting and preparing his / her user environment

o Troubleshoot and repair connectivity issues (i.e, reset the network adapter and test the connection) so the average user can try that before calling you

o Preparing and processing data for a server of some kind

o Processing a file, or set of files somehow

o Don’t like someone? Create a batch file that erases all of their data irretrievably
