The essay will include an introduction, which will briefly note the candidates who are running for the major two parties as well as note the number of the candidates and party affiliation of those running as third-party candidates and as independents. Students are not expected to list all of them. The introduction is not just a list of names but also sets up your paper’s content that addresses the 2020 presidential election.
The next part of the essay should also provide basic details about the platforms for the two front-running candidates. Politics1.com is a site that provides a listing of all of the candidates running for each of the parties. It directs viewers to the individual website for each candidate, which will provide basic information about the candidates and how they stand on specific issues. Please click on the link labeled 2020 Presidential Candidates to access the list of nominees.
Students should then select two candidates running as nominees for a third-party and provide their key platform issues. The summaries of the platforms of each of the six candidates (from the 2 major parties and 4 third-parties) should each be no more than two paragraphs long.
The last part of the essay will provide data on the outcome of the election. This portion should include who won, how many electoral and popular votes each of the four leading candidates received. Which regions of the country appeared to vote for which of the two leading candidates? Did any controversies arise during the election? What were they? Did the third-party candidates influence the outcome of the election? Were key votes taken from the candidate who lost the election?
The essay should provide a conclusion. Please address the outcome of the election. Did the right person win? Was the outcome unjust? Was there voter fraud? Was the election outcome determined by this essay was due?
The final essay must include a cover (title) page. The cover page must NOT be in the MLA format-the Chicago Style is required. It should include the student’s name, title, course name and section, instructor’s name, and date. An example is provided in the syllabus on the last page.
Students must provide works cited page providing citation information on the candidates and election outcome that was utilized. The works cited must also use the Chicago Style. Here are examples from
