Ludwig von Beethoven was not only a dynamic, brash, and genius composer at the turn of the 19th century, his ideas and inspirations for his own music changed the course of music history and ushered in a new era. He stands in the history of classical music as one of, if not THE greatest composer of all time. In this assignment we will take a closer look as to why that is.
Watch this short video and write a 3 page essay that includes:
How and in what ways Beethoven did inspire a new direction in music?
What was it about his style that was revolutionary and new in a time when that was not the norm?
Choose one of the three movements posted in the Module and that are discussed in the video, listen to it, and in your own words (with help from the video), describe why you like this one and the ideas/inspirations behind it. You may choose to listen to and respond to more than one if you would like.
* Suggestion: You may include information you already learned about Beethoven from the previous assigmment and the piano music you heard.

LISTENING NOTE: The listening is becoming more challenging (as it would in class) as it expected that students are becoming ready to listen to longer pieces of music. In order to appreciate this art, listeners must stay “tuned in” from beginning to end. A lost “talent” in our modern world. Do your best and challenge yourself to listen/watch from beginning to end of these movements escpecially the 4th movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, one of the crowning achievements in all of music history. Headphones/earbuds are a must to fully appreciate the dynamic quality of the music. I have included live video versions as we lost the chance to go hear the San Diego Symphony this semester.
