This is a Two-Part Assignment. For the current deadline, only need the part1. Part2’s deadline is on Nov.22. I will release 50% tomorrow and adjust the deadline.
Part 1, Keyword Portfolio, 250 words
Reading List:
1. Flanagan, Mary & Helen Nissenbaum. Chapter 1 & 2. Values at Play in Digital Games. 2014 (14- 41).
2. Anthropy, Anna. “Making Games.” Rise of the Videogame Zinesters: How Freaks, Normals, Amateurs, Artists, Dreamers, Dropouts, Queers, Housewives, and People Like You Are Taking Back an Art Form . Seven Stories Press. New York, 2012. p. 117-141. PDF.
3. Dean, Adria. “Closing the Loop.” The New Inquiry. March 1, 2016. https://thenewinquiry.com/essays/closing-the-loop/
Make sure to practice active reading: highlight the things that make sense to you, and make note of your questions. Try to identify one key idea, method or definition from the text and develop this into the keyword.
You should providing a key quote or two with some reflection of your own take on the readings. Please try to make a connection between the readings.
Please make sure to include a “works cited” for your Keyword, indicating which reading you are referencing, and use correct citation style (either MLA, APA or Chicago) to indicate page numbers for your quote.
Part 2: Reading Responses
There are two readings and each requires one response. Two responses need to be done separately, each between 150 and 200 words. Total between 300- 400 words.
Do not attempt to summarize the readings.
There will be guiding questions on each reading to help your brain storm. You may choose to answer one of them or develop on your own. (Please indicate which question you were answering if you pick the guiding question.)
Focus your response by finding one interesting thing to say about what you read. You may discuss the author’s claims or supporting evidence – merits, flaws, etc. You may discuss a key concept in terms of its usefulness or significance. You may also relate the reading to another reading from this course or from outside. You may reflect on discrepancies between the author’s claims and claims you hear from elsewhere – legacy media, social media, Canadian media, US media, global media, etc. When grading your responses, I’ll be looking for the “something interesting” that demonstrates your active engagement with the material. Merely summarizing the readings or stating your likes or dislikes without telling me why will be considered inadequate.
